Vy An has a BA in Japanese Language and Culture from Hufflit University, HCM Vietnam.

She began her career with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. In her spare time, Vy helped disadvantaged youth develop hospitality skills in a local catering initiative. It was here where she developed a passion for helping people grow.

Vy continued to fuel this passion in Canada by volunteering at the Brampton Neighbourhood Centre and Harbourfront Centre.

Currently, Vy is completing the Humber College Fundraising and Volunteer Management Program. She aims to gain deeper knowledge and experience in this field and eventually travel the world to enrich the lives of those in need.

Laura Armstrong graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2009 with a double major in English and Film.

While at Laurier, Laura became involved with NGOs which allow students to volunteer abroad to experience other cultures and learn about global issues.

Her work with Dominican Republic Education and Medical Support (D.R.E.A.M.S) allowed her to travel to the mountains of the Dominican Republic to a small village near Haiti, to build a home for a family in need. She continued to work with D.R.E.A.M.S as a board member focusing on fundraising and public relations throughout her undergrad.

She continued her humanitarian work abroad with The Global Youth Network (GYN) working to educate and mobilize young people towards making positive change.

In 2008, she traveled to India to work on famine relief in the north east for one month. In 2009, she completed a one month internship with GYN, to Peru to work with child workers and dengue fever prevention.

In 2010, she took on her most memorable role as team leader for GYN Team Kenya. Her group of Toronto students worked with an organization of women and children with HIV, promoting positive living. She and her team also worked with Ugunja Community Resource Centre (UCRC) a community development NGO located in western Kenya, who serve the area of communities to promote sustainable development, and empower communities through increasing access to education.

She founded A Work of Heart, a small online business that sells artwork and donates a portion to building projects in Kenya!
Laura is an avid runner, blogger, painter, photographer, and world traveler. She aspires to be a fundraiser that not only educates, but inspires change.

Stephanie Blackmore has a wide range of experience in the not for profit sector. She was a dedicated employee of Drayton Entertainment, a not for profit theatre organization, for three years. While attending Wilfrid Laurier University, Stephanie volunteered as an academic mentor. She coached students on academic probation and helped them develop healthy study habits, resulting in improved academic standing. Stephanie has volunteered with Waterloo’s Parkwood Mennonite Home where she assisted with bus outings and leisure activities for seniors. She volunteered for North Simcoe’s Habitat for Humanity with a variety of fundraising activities. Stephanie has an honours BA in Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University and is currently enrolled in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management Program at Humber College.

Melissa graduated in 2010 with an Hon. BA in History and Celtic Studies from the University of Toronto. While continuing to work with the ROM Governors Office and the SSEA, Melissa is completing the Humber College Postgraduate Program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management. She hopes to pursue a position in fundraising for the arts in museums and education upon graduation.

Emily Clark graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honors BA in History and Psychology. She is currently enrolled in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management Program at Humber College, while simultaneously working as the Special Events Coordinator at Lake Scugog Camp.

Emily brought the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life to her high school in 2005, and continued on the organizing committee in university, acting as the Committee Chair for two years. Under her leadership, the University of Guelph’s Relay for Life was one of the top grossing post-secondary fundraising events in Canada.

As the Leadership Director at Lake Scugog Camp, Emily successfully applied for seed funding from the United Church to create a year round leadership program for marginalized inner-city youth. Since its inception in 2008, it has grown to be an exemplary leadership program, and she has continued to coordinate, raise funds and administer the program.

Katie Craig is a recent Wilfrid Laurier University graduate who found her passion for the not-for-profit sector while volunteering within the WLU Students’ Union.

Fundraising events have become a passion and specialty of Katie’s as she was an integral member of the Laurier orientation week for three years while also planning a weeklong winter spirit event for more than 500 students. Katie has extensive experience in volunteer management as she worked as an executive member of the WLU Student Food Bank, coordinating volunteer schedules for making food deliveries as well as large events such as Halloween for Hunger and free pancake days.

As a summer fundraising intern for Autism Canada, Katie worked closely with the Executive Director developing a mail campaign, as well as securing sponsorship for the Autism Canada and Kidsability conference.

Katie is currently enrolled in the Humber Fundraising and Volunteer Management course. She is enthusiastic about working in either international development or healthcare but looks forward to finding her niche by the end of the program.

At an early age Kate Dalgleish was exposed to ideas of social justice and cultural understanding through her involvement with CISV: building global friendships.  After serving as co-chair on the London Junior Board, Kate went on to study International Development at Trent University.  During her undergraduate studies she participated in a year abroad program in Ecuador, where she spent four months doing a practicum with a small beekeeping organization, Asociación de Apicultores de San Pedro de Vilcabamba.  Upon her return to Canada, Kate focused her attention on local issues.  This brought her to Leamington, Ontario where she worked for Frontier College teaching literacy skills to migrant workers from Latin America and the Caribbean and acting as a Community Outreach Coordinator.  Further pursuing her interests, Kate has volunteered at community gardens, farmer’s markets and the Peterborough Folk Fest as the Green Team Coordinator.  She is currently studying Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College.

Laura has interned as a Marketing Assistant for the Puppy Pawlooza festival, focused on raising money for a collection of provincial animal-based charities. She has also been an active member of local community not-for-profits such as Animalert.

As a recent graduate of the University of Western Ontario she has obtained an Honours Specialization Degree in Media, Information and Technology Culture.

Robin Drysdale is a 2010 Wilfrid Laurier graduate with an undergraduate degree in English and sociology. During her time at Laurier, Robin's interest in fundraising and volunteer work sparked from her involvement with a Senior Outing Day Program.

Since then, she became involved with her university's peer help phone line, has volunteered with the Girl Guides of Canada and has volunteered abroad in both Morocco and India with Global Youth Network, a non profit organization that educates youth about social issues through worldly experiences. In Morocco, her volunteer projects ranged from repairing schools and distributing school supplies to building a walkway that would provide access to clean drinking water.

Her experience there was a life changing and led her to take on a leadership position for her next trip to Mizoram, India. Alongside her team members, she helped organize a fundraiser to raise money for microscopes that would start up malaria clinics in the remote areas. It only takes one microscope to establish a malaria clinic and her team raised enough money to purchase fifteen.

Robin is currently enrolled in Humber's Fundraising and Volunteer Management post-graduate program. This year, she plans to take advantage of all the opportunities and resources made available to her in hopes of finding her niche in the fundraising and not for profit sector.

She is currently enrolled in Humber College's Fundraising and Volunteer Management postgraduate program. Her goal is to secure a fundraising position in healthcare.

Samantha Grande has been involved in fundraising and volunteerism since she was a young girl. Her passion for the nonprofit sector continued while she was completing her Honours BA in Political Science at York University.  During her studies, she became particularly interested in social policy and the numerous ways it affects the different sectors of society.  Samantha’s areas of interest have been the environment, women’s issues and human development through the provision of social services. She recognized how nonprofits can play a distinct role within society through advocacy, offering programs support, as well as providing services to those in need. Samantha concluded that she did not need a career in public policy to bring about change within society, as she discovered all the meaningful work done by nonprofits.

Samantha appreciated the opportunity to participate in policy research for EGALE, in which she got to address the Canadian Blood Services’ lifelong ban on homosexual male blood donors.  As a passionate supporter of environmental causes and advocacy, Samantha volunteered with WWF-Canada where she has been be an assistant in the Major Gifts and Advancement research, as well as Prospect Research for Strategic Partnerships.  She has also been fortunate to contribute to WWF-Canada’s large outreach programs by being involved in their Planned Giving Acquisition project.
